Changes to ByFusion Recycle Program

Changes to ByFusion Recycle Program

There have been some changes to the City of Tucson’s Hard-to-Recycle Plastics Program.

You will no longer need to purchase the special Hefty ReNew orange bags!

The Hefty ReNew program, offered by Reynolds Consumer Products, is closing, and Hefty ReNew orange bags will no longer be produced after 2026.

Tucson’s Hard-to-Recycle Plastics Program is continuing. Once you use up your existing orange bags, you can collect eligible hard-to-recycle plastics in clear or transparent plastic bags. These bags help contain lightweight materials, prevent litter, and allow ByFusion staff to see the contents and identify contamination before processing.

There are also changes to what materials are accepted. Sadly, Styrofoam and foam packaging are no longer accepted and should not be placed in your bags. ByFusion cannot use these materials to make ByBlocks.

ByFusion is preparing to open a processing facility at the City’s Los Reales Sustainability Campus (LRSC)! The facility will process hard-to-recycle plastics collected through Tucson’s program and transform them into ByBlocks, durable building blocks made from recycled plastic.

The City of Tucson Environmental Services will continue operating and maintaining the five hard-to-recycle plastics drop-off sites throughout Tucson, with collected materials transported to the ByFusion facility for processing once it is operational.
