Worksheets August 2025

Welcome back, educators, from your friends at Bear Essential News.

Please utilize this literacy award-winning newspaper and its other free programs and materials in your classroom this school year.

Bear’s August edition just printed. The main feature covers the benefits of setting goals and what kinds of steps young people can take to achieve them. This back-to-school edition also offers fun and fascinating news stories, activities (the hidden picture search on the front cover is always a favorite) and features. To request newspapers for your school or to adjust the amount of newspapers your school receives, please call toll-free: 1-866-NEWS KID (639-7543).

August’s standards-based Worksheets that go along with this issue are posted on Bear’s website. Teachers can sign up for worksheet notifications through the website: Sign up here

On page 10 of Bear’s Phoenix edition, third-graders can enter Valley Metro’s Cool Transit STUFF 3rd Grade Art Contest. “Move Smart, Play Your Part,” wants third-graders to draw, paint or sketch how everybody can move smart by riding a Valley Metro bus, light rail or streetcar to get to where they want to go.

In the Tucson Edition, check out Bear’s Back-to-School Guide for 2025 on pages 10 through 13. Family resources, school district contact info and great programs, places and organizations for kids and families.

Teachers and youth organizations can give us a call at 1-866-NEWS KID to set up free presentations on writing and/or reporting! Visits by Bear editors are made possible by the non-profit Bear Essential Educational Services (BEES). Details of the five different presentations and the grade levels they cover are online under the Teachers tab.

Please encourage students in grades 3 thru 8 to join Bear’s Young Reporters Program and start writing for the newspaper! Details are part of the worksheets this month. Young Reporters receive an official YR Kit to help get them started, and we are looking for a volunteer Adviser at every school. This program and these worksheets are brought to you by BEES, a 501(c)(3) non-profit.

Next month, Bear Essential News publishes its big Field Trip Guide! On its website BearEssentialNews.com, educators can access (under the Teachers tab) the newly updated Teacher Grants & Field Trip Funding resource.

Have a very good year.
