Animated Film Is Golden
I watched the movie “KPop Demon Hunters” much later than my peers in school who were all talking about this recent animated movie—hence the anticipation was real!
Kids and teens around the world were jolted awake by this stylish adaptation of KPop culture. I am not a KPop fan, but the idea of the movie truly appealed to me, as it seemed original and refreshing! The characters were inspiring, rebellious and quirky at the same time. The entire plot was engaging.
The unique selling point of “KPop Demon Hunters” is the stunning animation and music. I personally loved the song “Takedown,” which portrayed a bittersweet sense of rivalry amongst two pop bands, Huntrix and Saja Boys.
In terms of the story, the friendship of Rumi, Mira and Zoey was really heartfelt, whereas the secret alliance between Jinu and Rumi (voiced by Arden Cho) had me questioning the trust the other girls had in Rumi. Unlike Rumi’s deep background, Mira and Zoey did not have detailed back stories, which was a weak point in my mind. Except for that, the overall concept was unusually refreshing and relatable without making it a cliche. The catchy tunes continuously replayed in my mind. The action scenes were thrilling.
I would definitely recommend watching this dazzling amalgamation of Popdrama and supernatural saga at least once. I give it a score of 8/10.
