Film is One You Won’t Forget

DreamWorks just released their amazing new film, “Forgotten Island,” in theaters! The movie is about best friends who are drifting apart because one of them is moving away from their home in the Philippines.

On their last night together, they discover a magic sand dollar that transports them to the mystical island of Nakali. Their adventures on the island test their friendship as they try to escape the island. The main characters are Jo and Raissa. Jo is hilarious through her volume and physical comedy, but is also very complex. She doesn’t want to be abandoned by Raissa, as others have abandoned her in her life. Raissa is just as complex as Jo and wants to go to a college in the U.S. but doesn’t want to leave Jo behind.

This movie was our favorite DreamWorks production to date. It featured a spectrum of characters like Raww, Prince Merman (it’s pronounced mer-MAHN, thank you very much), and King Truffle Wuffle, who all made
spectacular jokes that were weird in the best way. Everyone in the theater was laughing out loud! But there’s no skimping on the scary stuff—we couldn’t believe just how terrifying The Dreaded Manananggal, the antagonist, was!

Bungy was one of our favorite characters because everything he did was hilarious and just a little random (and who doesn’t like a demon baby?). The music perfectly illustrated each scene and was mostly performed by Filipino artists. The movie is rich with Filipino culture, like a jeepney that the girls ride as children, a heaping helping of banana lumpia, and, of course, the karaoke sung alongside the Kapre (tree people).

This film will make you laugh, cry, scream, and dance! Filipino roots or not, you’re sure to enjoy this movie just as much as we did. BRB—we’ll see you at the movies!
