Keeping Your Dog Friends Safe & Happy

Dogs are great companions, but if you take them everywhere with you, you need to be aware of any
dangers to their paws. According to the Farmers Almanac, September averages could be around 81 degrees in Tucson. It might be a nice cool down for us, but is it cool enough for our dogs to go on midday walks? Here are some tips to be on the safe side of making sure your furry friend has a fun and comfortable outing with you.

First you should always bring water with you so they can get a cool drink whenever they need it.
They need to keep hydrated in warm weather. Second, be aware of the ground temperature. According to the Royal Kennel Club, “If it’s too painful for you to place your hand on the pavement for seven seconds, then it’s too painful for your dog to walk on.”

The time of day that you take them out makes a difference. The morning and evening are the coolest times of day to take them out comfortably. Finally, something else you can do to save their paws on the
pavement is you can buy your dog shoes. I know it sounds silly, but it will prevent your dog from getting
burnt paws. AKC Pet Insurance says, “In certain situations, shoes can help protect your dog’s paws and provide extra comfort and support.”

Taking care of dogs in desert heat is easy as long as you bring water everywhere they go, and be sure to care for their paws.
