Saguaro City Gets Kooky with ‘The Addams Family’

From June 26 to 28, Saguaro City Music Theatre will present “The Addams Family” as part of its annual summer theatre program, Studio Arts Presents. After auditions, I had the opportunity to interview Penelope Paschke-Wood, who will be playing the role of Wednesday.

Penelope is 14 and a freshman at University High School. From a very young age, she has enjoyed the performing arts, especially dance and theatre. Her love for performing largely comes from her parents. Her mom, Missy Paschke-Wood, was recently seen in Saguaro City’s production of “The Wizard of Oz” as theWicked Witch of the West, while her dad enjoys playing musical instruments. Overall, Penelope said she is “super excited” because this is her first lead role in a production.

During the interview, I learned that Penelope not only participates in theatre, but is also a competitive dancer. She explained, “I just really like to entertain people.” Before “The Addams Family,” Penelope performed in “Matilda” as part of the Big Kid ensemble and in “Annie” as Star-to-Be. She shared that performing has helped build her confidence. She also noted, “My favorite part of Saguaro City is all the people there and the friendly community.”

Come enjoy “The Addams Family” at the Berger Performing Arts Center, located at 1200 W. Speedway. Tickets are available at Bookmans and through www.saguarocity.org. Best of all, children 17 and under attend free when accompanied by an adult!
